goddamnit i have to study these incredible methods, I've been getting into after effects now, but I'm sure is nowhere near as rewarding as animating fluidly in PS with a wide variety of brushes

This is awesome! Thanks for sharing your process; reading this made me realize how counterintuitive my own method was. I wasn't using video layers at all, which worked for exporting .gifs, but trying to put all the layers together in After Effects for bigger stuff was such a nightmare.
