Hmm, although I do like the new design, I can definitely see the improvements, I actually prefer the more minimalistic take you originally had, I think that by having less sounds, you made the 'punchline' sounds more powerful.
Still is a tremendous piece of work either way, and do send kudos to your friend, they clearly know their stuff! :)
